Spring Hybrid Commencement

As UCCS prepares to confer more than a thousand degrees this spring, Chancellor Reddy announced that UCCS will hold a mix of virtual and in-person celebrations, marking the first in-person celebrations since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The celebrations will include a virtual commencement ceremony held on May 14, 2021, premiering live on YouTube. In addition, the Classes of 2021 and 2020 will be able to participate in the first-ever "Picture on the Plaza" celebration, where they will have the opportunity to be professionally photographed with their diploma jackets on El Pomar Plaza.

To prepare for either scenario, we need your help. Please support our efforts by applying to graduate, submitting a photo and preparing for the in-person component. The deadline to apply and submit a photo is Thursday, March 11. We will post further information about the picture on a plaza in-person event in the coming weeks.

STEP 1: APPLY TO GRADUATE

Friday, May 14, 2021 at 1 p.m.

A complete live video for each college will be posted here as the day of commencement approaches. UCCS will post a list of degrees conferred in each college to aid family members in watching the correct video.

STEP 3: SUBMIT A PHOTO

Information for participants:

On Monday, May 17, we will hold the first-ever “Picture on the Plaza” celebration. Weather permitting, graduates will be able to have a professional photo taken on El Pomar Plaza in front of our iconic marble mountain lion mascot statue; we will also have other photo stations set up at which graduates can have pictures taken with their cell phones by staff members or as selfies. Graduates will have their name read as part of a livestream that family and friends can watch, as they pose for their professional photo; they will be organized in order of college and level of degree for ease to viewers. The procession order and livestream access will be posted on this Commencement site when available; this is being planned as a morning event with specific timing to be shared once we have a better idea of attendance.

This in-person, graduate-only, outdoor celebration will symbolize the completion of graduates’ studies at UCCS and the beginning of their next phase of life.
We encourage graduates to wear regalia to this event, but it is not mandatory given this is a celebration event and not a ceremony event.

The event will begin at 9:30 a.m., and check-in will open at 8:45 a.m. for graduates of the Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Check-in times for other colleges will be shared as the event approaches, along with other know-before-you-go information.

Our graduates will be celebrated by college, in the following order:

  • Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences
  • College of Business
  • School of Public Affairs
  • College of Education
  • College of Engineering and Applied Science
  • College of Letters, Arts & Sciences
