Virtual Commencement FAQ's

Registration for our virtual commencement ceremony has concluded. We invite you to watch and participate virtually to celebrate with us. 

You may still indicate your interest in walking in a commencement ceremony next year via this form. 

Yes, any spring graduate who wishes to participate in the next fall commencement ceremony (Dec. 18, 2020) OR next spring commencement ceremony (May 14, 2021) will be able to do so.

You may use this registration link to express interest in the fall ceremony. 

Those who express an interest in the December ceremony will receive an email in the Fall to the non-UCCS email address they used to register for the Spring 2020 virtual ceremony. At that time, you will officially declare your intent to participate and register appropriately.

Yes, and as such you’ll be inducted into our Alumni Association. 

Graduates can continue to purchase items, like gown, mortarboard, tassel and mementos through the UCCS Bookstore.

The UCCS Bookstore is holding an online Graduation Fair, beginning March 30 and running through May 15.  Visit uccsbookstore.com to have any of the following items conveniently delivered to your home:

• Graduation regalia* or a black and gold UCCS souvenir tassel, commemorative tassel, stole of gratitude from the Latino Student Union (all proceeds go to the Latino Student Union)
• 20% off diploma frames
• UCCS gifts and paraphernalia
• Branded clothing
• 10% off UCCS Alumni gear

*Because the traditional ceremony has been canceled, regalia (cap/gown/tassel) is not required. You can still purchase it for posterity, pictures, etc. However, there will be no returns on regalia, including un-opened items. Exchanges due to sizing issues are permitted.

The virtual commencement ceremony will premiere on YouTube, however it will be embedded on https://commencement.uccs.edu or here on https://commencement.uccs.edu/virtual.

Ahead of the ceremony, a link will be posted at both locations so you can watch as it premieres, or replay the event any time thereafter. 

Make sure to apply for graduation through the Office of the Registrar. This is a required step to receive your degree.  

Every year spring graduates receive diplomas after the ceremony to their address of record. This spring’s graduates can expect diplomas to be mailed around August 24, 2020.

As diploma covers are normally distributed during the ceremony, graduates will receive a diploma jacket, a couple printed program and Latin Honors cords (if earned) by mail in mid-late May.

Yes. If you have an immediate family member who also graduated from UCCS, be sure to request your complimentary legacy cord (black, gold, silver weave) to have as a memento. Request your cord online from the Alumni & Friends Association or contact Lisa Bartholme at 719-255-3187.

Yes, honor cords are ordered for baccalaureate students graduating with honorary distinction Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, or Cum Laude, based on Spring GPAs.

You do not need to register for the Virtual Ceremony to receive honor cords. All individuals receiving Latin honors will be automatically mailed an honor cord, as well as a diploma jacket and a couple printed programs to their address of record in mid-late May.

Latin Honors are calculated based on a student’s CU Cumulative GPA. For the commencement ceremony, including honor cords and the printed program, final semester grades may not be included in this calculation. Latin Honor designations are recalculated once all grades are posted and will be displayed on official diplomas and transcripts.
